The Main Building, St Fagans Museum

Following our successful hand over of the Y' Gweithdy building at St Fagans, JJ Interiors were appointed by Kier Construction to carry out the joinery and FF&E works to the main building at St Fagans Museum on the outskirts of Cardiff, South Wales. Part of the £30 million revamp works to the grade II-listed main building now provides a new entrance, reception area, shop and café. The Weston Centre for Learning includes activity spaces and a lecture theatre. 

Working closely with Kier Construction and architects, Purcell, JJ Interiors provided specialist joinery works to the following:
 

  • Three learning activity rooms including bespoke timber and glass cabinets, workstations and worktops

  • Collections access centre 

  • Cafe including servery counter for Shine Food Machinery Ltd. and acoustic timber ceiling for Accordial Acoustic Ltd

  • 4m Wide Sliding Door partitioning the cafe from the main atrium

  • New Shop including bespoke timber and glass display cabinets and mobile Corian® display units

  • Project value £170k

Following the successful contract works were appointed by the museum direct to design, manufacture and install the following items:
 

  • Ground floor and first floor reception counters,  manufactured entirely in house from acrylic solid surface (Corian®) with integrated lighting and signage. The ground floor in particular is capable of coming apart in three sections and can be wheeled away for storage during museum functions

  • Cafe furniture including banquette and booth seating

  • Cafe tables

  • Changing rooms

All works were successfully completed in the summer of 2017.
